Alternator pulley not spinning.

If it doesnt I can take the bearings back and use that money on a alt that isnt as rusty. The bad bearing sound could also be from the ac idler pulley. Remove the ac belt and give the idler pulley a spin. It should spin smoothly. Swap that pigtail and have your alternator tested. Rust doesn't mean it's bad. Dec 29, 2019 · Wisconsin. Dec 29, 2019. #7. you can try spraying penetrating oil on the backside of the pulley and then tap on the pulley with a hammer to unstick the bearing. either try turning it by hand with a wrench or try starting it a few times. if you do get it unstuck but the alternator howls really bad, you may end up having to replace the alternator. The frequency is proportional to alternator speed. When the alternator is spinning 3600 rpm you will get 60 cycles per second on each leg, so you would need to control engine speed carefully for anything that was AC frequency sensitive. As for how much you can get out of it, alternators are rated in Amps.

Nov 22, 2003 · I have replaced the alternator recently and just yesterday replaced the waterpump. For some reason the alternator pulley does not line up with the fan pulley. It actually sits a little sideways, which causes the belt to rub on the pulleys. I have tried to use washers to adjust the alternator either way, but can't get it just right. Got the correct bearing today and reassembled the alternator. Works fine. There is a slight brush noise (only when turned by hand off the vehicle) but that may be due to new brushes, once they seat in the noise may go away. But no big deal, the alternator is operating perfectly. The torque for the pulley nut is 81 foot/pounds..

G3 Alternator seized, pulley wont spin - Team Integra Forums.

Answer (1 of 4): The pulley will squeak or slip which will cause intermittent variations of the alternator speed. I have had similar problems and when I went to a mechanic for evaluation, the mechanic showed me a seriously frayed pulley band. Assuming the noise is gone, then spin all your accessory pulleys for anything loud/odd. There will probably be a bit of play in the tensioner pulley but if i'ts smooth it's fine. Should be no perceivable play in the alternator pulley. You should be able to spin it and not hear a thing either.

Mar 23, 2015 · Once the alternator was locked, I tried spinning the pulley by hand in either direction. It was seized and would not move. So, I assumed that was the problem. This time I ordered another new belt, tensioner, as well as an upper idler pulley, a lower idler pulley, an alternator pulley, and an alternator pulley removal tool. Assuming the alternator pulley isn't lined up with the drive belt as it should be, or the alternator orientation is damaging little by little, it by and large makes a growling sound, meaning you might have an alternator issue. Avoid leaving a terrible alternator on for such a long time as it can cause severe damage to your car's engine.

Alternator Decoupler Pulleys - Toyota Nation Forum.

The freewheel pulley is designed to let the alternator run down slowly once you let off the throttle and between gearchanges instead of a harsh drop in speed each time the RPM drops. So the pulley should lock when turned one way, and spin freely (with very slight resistance) the other way.

The smog pump belt is too loose or worn out. Notice that the alt. belt only wraps around the waterpump. If the smog pump belt slips then that causes the water pump pulley to slip then that causes low charge rate from the alternator. If you can rotate the alt. pulley by hand against its normal rotation, ( ENGINE OFF) the smog pump belt is either. Check the large power cable to the alternator and the fuse, usually, a large 40-60 amp fuse near the battery. Check the ground cable between the engine and the body. Check the serpentine belt and make sure the alternator is spinning with the engine. Check the small power supply wire and the charging light wire. Vehicle: 2007 Honda Accord coupe EX Problem: whining noise coming from a bearing in either the alternator, compressor, pulley (according to a mechanic, but he can’t tell at the moment). Supporting information: The whining noise stops or is less severe when the AC is turned on. Troubleshooting done so far: replaced o-rings on power steering pump. Is there a way to diagnose if the noise is.

Pulled the alternator, replaced the brushes/regulator as they were pretty well worn, but not completely. Re-fitted alternator, still no charge and loud knocking sound, but definitely from the alternator area. No issues I could tell with the pulley/bearings when spinning by hand. Pulled it again and took it to alternator shop. If changing the water pump pulley (increasing it's size over stock), you're also decreasing the speed of the water pump, thus slowing the cooling system's capabilities to move the coolant throughout the block, heater core and radiator in inefficient manner. The LARGER your pulleys are on the Alt and Water pump, the slower they will spin.

Jan 25, 2006 · Elon, either way you spin it, the flow of air is the same but not as efficient when spinning in the rotation not designed for. It is like turning you car fan 180 degrees on the pulley. It still is a suction fan but very inefficeint. I did that stupid mistake to a crane operator. It sounds as if the pulley may have seized (pretty rare) then snapped under load. You probably need a new (or used) alternator. 2000 V70R Black, 144,000 miles Wife's R. 2007 V70 2.5T White/Oak 111,000 MILES. Should Alternator Pulley Spin Freely? – BatteryFever.

There are few signs of the alternator pulley when there is a problem in it. The first is excessive tensioner movement. If a short buzzing of 1 to 5 seconds is heard after shutting down the engine it signals that the alternator might have to be replaced. There can also be a chirping sound caused by the worn out bearing when the engine is. However, there are differences and the various styles are not interchangeable. Simple, one-way clutches allow the alternator pulley to continue spinning when the engine is shut off and during shifting. This helps prevent the belt noise and chirping that often occurred when the belt stopped, but the alternator tried to keep spinning..

The pulley need only be out of the plane of the other pulleys by 1/8" to make noise. Look at any rubber isolators on the alternator, see if they have deteriorated or moved, and pry slightly on the alternator mounting to. Canada. Hey guys, I have an 03 turbo cobra with a 01 cobra alternator, just curious on a couple things. I'm running I believe a 6.75 balancer, with a 2.2 pulley on the alternator at a max engine rpm of 7000, and that's spinning the absolute crap out of it like 21000 rpms. I would need a 3.0" pulley to get the speed down to just under 16000 rpms.

Squeaking From Belt or Pulley: I Have Heard That There Was.

With the engine off, open your car's bonnet so that you have access to the battery. Find the alternator and make sure the drive belt isn't loose (as this itself could be the source of one of the problems). Take your prefered alternator tester, either voltmeter or multimeter, and turn it to the 20 V setting. The only place I could find a new replacement alternator pulley was at FCP Euro, the price was only $34.99, but there website mistakenly stated that it would also work on a Valeo alternator, when it would only work on the Bosch alternator's. FCP Euro has since corrected this after I spoke with the parts manager.

Also when you're replacing the belt next time check your alternator pulley, its an overrun pulley and when you jam the alternator fan blades the pulley should only rotate in 1 way not both ways. This can also cause belt shredding. Also check your sub-frame around the PS-pulley and look for indications of them making contact/hitting. If it is the alternator not moving, you need to loosen the bolts holding it to the bracket and then slide it so the belt will go on. Did you simply cut the old belt off without loosening the alternator first?. It sounds like your shim washer isn't thick enough allowing the pulley to get jammed up against the housing of the alternator. Either this or the shim washer is too big in diameter and is binding up. You should be able to tighten the nut on the shaft all the way but still be able to spin the pulley/shaft. Feb 15, 2021 #3 Isaac Ristow.
